The CDC is the US Government’s lead for monitoring and responding to seasonal, novel, and pandemic influenza.  The mission of the Influenza Division of the National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases (NCIRD), Office of Infectious Disease (OID) at the CDC is to improve global control and prevention of seasonal and novel influenza and improve pandemic preparedness and response.

Leidos is seeking a motivated, detail-oriented, organized senior level candidate to manage the partner engagement and support activities of the CDC Influenza Division. Duties include, providing technical consultation to public health partners or in response to a surge, epidemic, or pandemic; conducting program and policy analyses; performing literature searches and critical review of published data; preparing reports, communications, guidance documents, and presentations; performing project-specific site visits and audits at laboratory or collaborative partner facilities to support research project implementation. Some travel, both domestic and international, may be required to support certain subtasks by on site staff. This position is contingent upon contract award.

Primary Responsibilities

• Provide population data to assist decision makes in formulating management strategies needed during influenza outbreaks, epidemics, or pandemics
• Conduct policy and program analysis, identify and evaluate information, data requirements, and resources and recommend team priorities to maintain capacity to respond to internal and external partner demands
• Coordinate pandemic preparedness training with CDC partners including developing materials for training programs and coordinating with CDC and CDC partners
• Make recommendations on the integration of operations in support of emergency response in accordance with the National Response Framework
• Draft evidence-based Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) Influenza Vaccine Statements for the United States influenza seasonal recommendations that will be published as guidance statements
• Contribute to the current influenza research and surveillance community body of knowledge for influenza vaccines and surveillance
• Participate in the preparation of information for peer-reviewed journals and scientific conferences and meetings
• Assist in the development of models and validation methods to assess the potential pandemic risk of human seasonal and animal influenza strains and support sharing of research findings, virological samples, and other information and biological material with strategic partners
• Develop a risk assessment framework to support evaluation of variant viruses and their potential prevalence and impact to upcoming influenza seasons in order to improve the influenza vaccine selection process
• Provide troubleshooting support with domestic and international laboratories related to the performance of laboratory assays for the detection of circulating influenza viruses
• Serve as a subject matter expert for the Convention on Biological Diversity

• Basic Qualifications

• Senior level epidemiologist (MS/MPH with 10+ years of experience or PhD with 7-10 years of experience) with a background in epidemiology, bioinformatics, biostatistics, public health, or other related field.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Experience managing teams
• Demonstrated proficiency with statistical and analysis software (e.g. SAS, R) and Microsoft Office (i.e. Access, Excel, PowerPoint)
• Must be able to obtain and hold a Public Trust Security Clearance

• Preferred Qualifications

• CDC customer experience and knowledge of their organizational structure
• Familiarity with WHO Global Influenza Program, Influenza Risk Assessment Tool
• Familiarity with laboratory assays to detect circulating influenza virus
• Experience interacting with high-level Federal, state, and local public health officials and response agencies
